You may not know it, but if you solicit funds from individuals or grantors in other states, you may be required to file with that state’s jurisdiction! No, it’s not easy, and yes it’s a royal PITA (translated = pain in the ass), but if you want to be on the straight-and-narrow, you’d better get going. In anticipation of the new Form 990 to be filed in 2009 by non-profits, the IRS has put out draft filing instructions. It’s a good idea to read these as this form will reflect all accounting activity for 2008.
